U.S Lack the Courage to Attack Israel: Ahmadinejad

BRASILIA News Update: Visiting Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad said that US and Israeli military threats against Iran were a thing of the past, and that, in any case, “they don’t have the courage” to attack Iran.
“The age of military attacks is over, now we’ve reached the time for dialogue and understanding. Weapons and threats are a thing of the past,” the Iranian told a joint press conference with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, closing his one-day visit.
Fielding a question on whether he feared an attack from Israel or the United States, Ahmadinejad said armed confrontation was no longer a possibility.
That’s clear “even for mentally challenged people,” he said with a smile.
Besides, he added, “those you mention (Israel and United States) don’t have the courage to attack Iran. They’re not even thinking about it.”
Ahmadinejad met for three hours with Lula to discuss Iran’s controversial nuclear program, over which Lula urged Teheran to find a “just solution” with Western powers.
Clinton Says Iran Nuclear offer will not be Changed

MARRAKECH: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that the nuclear offer to Iran, intended to restrain its potential for making a nuclear weapon, should be fully accepted by Iran and will not be changed.

“This is a pivotal moment for Iran,” she said at a news conference after consulting with senior government officials from several Persian Gulf nations, plus Egypt, Morocco and Jordan.
“We continue to press the Iranians to accept fully the proposal that has been made, which they accepted in principle,” Clinton said. “Acceptance fully of this proposal … would be a good indication that Iran does not wish to be isolated and does wish to cooperate with the international community.” She said Iran should accept it as it stands, “because we are not altering it.”
The head of the U.N. nuclear agency urged Iran on Monday to clarify its response to the proposal that would have Tehran ship most of its nuclear material abroad for processing. The plan is backed by the U.S., Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.
Iranian officials sent mixed signals on the plan that would have Tehran export 70 percent of its enriched uranium — enough to build a bomb — and have it returned as fuel for its research reactor. The foreign minister said Monday that option still exists; a senior diplomat suggested the opposite.
Iran has indicated it wants to purchase higher-enriched uranium from abroad rather than shipping its low-enriched uranium to Russia for further enrichment.
The dispute allows Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his hard-line allies to claim the high ground as defenders of Iran’s national dignity through its strides in nuclear technology. It also provides Ahmadinejad a chance to broaden support after June’s disputed elections, because even his harshest opponents take pride in Iran’s nuclear accomplishments.

Iran links U.S., Britain, Pakistan In The Attack

TEHRAN: The chief of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard accused the United States, Britain and Pakistan on Monday of having links with Sunni militants responsible for a suicide bombing that killed five senior Guard commanders and 37 others.
According to sources, Iran’s president said those behind Sunday’s bombing are hiding across the border in Pakistan, and in a phone call to his Pakistani counterpart on Monday he demanded their arrest.
Monday’s statements marked the first time Iran has publicly accused its neighbour’s intelligence service of supporting the Sunni rebel group known as Jundallah, or Soldiers of God.
Revolutionary Guard chief General Mohammad Ali Jafari vowed Monday to deliver a “crushing” response.
“New evidence has been obtained proving the link between Sunday’s terrorist attack and the US, British and Pakistani intelligence services,” state TV quoted Jafari as saying.
He said the attack was “undoubtedly” planned and ordered by the three nation’s intelligence services and that a delegation would soon travel to Pakistan to present evidence.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had harsh words Monday for his Pakistani counterpart, Asif Ali Zardari.
“The presence of terrorist elements in Pakistan is not justifiable and that the Pakistani government needs to help arrest and punish the criminals as soon as possible,” state TV quoted Ahmadinejad as telling Zardari.
“We’ve heard that some officers in Pakistan cooperate with the main elements behind such terrorist attacks and we consider it our right to demand these criminals from them,” he was quoted as saying.
Zardari telephoned Ahmadinejad to strongly condemn the suicide attack.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pointed a finger of blame at the United States, sources reported.
“This terrorists’ crime revealed the evil face of enemies of security and unity who are supported by intelligence organizations of some arrogant governments,” he said, using Iran’s term for the US.

TEHRAN: The president of Iran says failure of upcoming nuclear talks would hurt the West more than Iran.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says October 19th conference in Vienna will be a test for additional “fruitful” work on the issue of Iran’s nuclear program.
Western nations are continuing to urge Iran to curtail any nuclear efforts toward weaponry.
Sanctions have already been imposed on Iran, and there’s talk of stiffer measures if Tehran doesn’t abandon disputed elements of its nuclear program.
Iran has insisted its nuclear efforts are geared solely toward energy production.

The Chicago teen who was beaten in North Side Edgewater Wednesday night was alert and able to talk to detectives after undergoing surgery Thursday.
This beating comes just a week after a video tape of the beating death of Fenger honor student Derrion Albert rocked the city and the nation.
However, no one was videotaping when three men chased down an unidentified 14-year-old teen and beat him nearly to death on the 6300 block of N. Paulina.
“He was covered in blood. Blood was all over the street,” the woman who called police to the scene told the Chicago Tribune. “It was all over his face,

South Africa Vs New Zealand Today

S Africa Vs New Zealand, CENTURION: After their heart-breaking defeat in the first match, South Africa would look to bring their campaign back on track when they clash against a diffident New Zealand at Sport Park here today.
The hosts lost by 55 runs to Sri Lanka yesterday but would take confidence from the fact that the Black Caps are coming into the event after a morale shattering Lankan tour.
The Kiwis lost their Test series in the Island nation and also failed to make the final of the tri-series, losing both the league matches.
New Zealand have a decent attack, bolstered by return of Shane Bond, but have to overcome their batting woes.
They mostly depend on the trio of Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor who have been far from impressive in the recent past.
Let’s hope South Africa’s second match in the ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand proves a better spectacle than Pakistan’s low-scoring victory over West Indies.
To lose by 117 balls suggests the West Indies haven’t improved since their dismal showing against England earlier this year. Pakistan looked awesome, though.

Iran Hits Out at Western ‘Terror’

UN: Iran’s president has launched a scathing attack on Western powers, accusing them of spreading “war, bloodshed and terror” in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that Tehran was prepared to warmly shake all those hands which are honestly extended to us.
But he accused the West of hypocrisy, saying it preached democracy but violated its fundamental principles.
Already speaking to a half-empty chamber, his attacks on the US and its allies – including Israel’s barbaric attack on the Gaza Strip, its inhuman policies in the Palestinian territories and its domination of world political and economic affairs – prompted a walkout by the US delegation.
