Indian External Affairs Minister S.M Krishna termed terrorism as biggest obstacle in normalizing of ties with Pakistani. During a press briefing after returning to Delhi on Friday, Krishna said that he had an extensive and serious discussion with Qureshi in which all issues of mutual interest were taken up, adding that the ‘talks enabled us to understand each others’ point of view’.

Replying to a question, Krishna said FM Qureshi assured him of all out measures to take the Mumbai accused to justice and pursue the Headley case.
Answering a question regarding ISI involvement in Mumbai attack and Hafiz Saeed, the Indian minister said that there are no comparison between the two and said that ‘Unless Pakistan curb the people who are hostile to India like Hafiz Saeed, who always called for Jihad against India, such people would not help in smoothening of ties between the two countries’.
When asked about his consistent phones to New Delhi during his meeting with FM Qureshi, Krishna altogether denied it, saying that he never used his phone, however added that during the diplomatic parleys, the FMs always stay in touch with their base.
‘I have not spoken to anybody, the mandate given to me was precise and so clear that I did not need any additional instruction from Delhi’. Regarding timeline on Mumbai incident investigation, Krishna said that such issues are not time-bound in diplomatic parleys.
‘We do not go by timeline unless it is absolutely necessary’, however, added that ‘terrorism is the biggest obstacle in normalizing of ties between the two countries and unless it is met all other efforts are futile.’ When asked about any gains from the meeting with Qureshi, Krishna said that, ‘I think we have made some headway… and trust deficit is getting reduced’.

Twins Separated from Bangladesh Intensive Care: Hospital

SYDNEY news update: Bangladeshi twins Trishna and Krishna have left intensive care as they continue their remarkable recovery from surgery to separate their conjoined heads, the hospital said.
The two-year-old girls, rescued from a Dhaka orphanage, moved to a shared room on the normal ward on Monday, just a week after the 32-hour operation to disconnect their fused skulls, brains and blood vessels.
“They are sharing a room together and settling into their new environment,” Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital said in a statement.
“The girls are getting to know the new staff who will be caring for them now that they have left intensive care.”
The twins’ heads remain heavily bandaged but they have appeared otherwise well, with Trishna awake and talking two days after surgery and Krishna blowing a signature raspberry when she was woken from a medical coma on Saturday.
Their condition has amazed medical staff who nursed them back to fitness after they arrived in fading health from Bangladesh two years ago, and gave them just a 25 percent chance of both recovering completely from the separation.
“We’re all so proud of our children’s hospital and we’re so proud of the quality of the nurses and the staff and the doctors that we’ve got there,” Victoria state Premier John Brumby told Fairfax radio.
“This was just another great example where these two children, who I think, to be honest, many of us thought were not going to get through, have come through, fingers crossed at this stage, with flying colours.”
The girls’ 22-year-old mother, who was unable to care for the sickly babies and handed them to an orphanage soon after their birth, has said she hopes to travel to Australia to see them.

Indian Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor on Wednesday said Pakistan had violated ceasefire norms recently with an intention to push in more terrorists to Jammu and Kashmir before the onset of winter. Gen Kapoor, however, said India’s troops were quite alive to such tactics and giving befitting reply to contain intrusion to the valley. “There has been a violation by Pakistan in the last couple of days,” he told media after reviewing the Mounted Parade of 61st Cavalry at polo ground here. “Those violations are being used as a means by Pakistan to push in additional terrorists before the winter sets in, so that there is a degree of instability in the valley and Jammu and Kashmir. Forces are quite well versed with these tactics. They are quite alive to these tactics,” Gen Kapoor said when asked if Pakistan was violating ceasefire norms. “We have appropriately deployed the forces and they would ensure to contain any infiltration bid further,” the Chief of Army Staff said. “Let me ensure, Indian borders are extremely safe. We are fully alive to any challenges to face… Nothing worrying on borders”. Asked if western borders are under scanner, the Army Chief said, “As the winter is approaching, there will be efforts from other side to push in infiltrators. As you would have noticed, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is peaceful for the last 7-8 months”.

Action Taken Against Saeed Not Satisfactory: Krishna

Terrorism will be the single most important issue for discussion between External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart during their meeting here on Sunday.

“Terrorism is the single most important issue from our side,” Mr. Krishna told PTI ahead of his meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The Minister said the recent action taken against JuD chief Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, was not satisfactory.
Mr. Krishna pointed out that the reason for Saeed’s arrest was not the Mumbai attacks but a hate speech he had made at a Ramadan dinner criticising Pakistan, India and the United States.
India has been demanding action against the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and dismantling of terror infrastructure in Pakistani soil.
Mr. Krishna also said New Delhi was assessing Islamabad’s recent response to its demands related to the Mumbai attacks.
“We are evaluating the various steps that Pakistan seems to have taken with respect to Mumbai attacks,” he said.
Pakistan has arrested seven people and sent out an alert for 11 more in connection with the attacks.
Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao will also meet her counterpart Salman Bashir before the Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
