The second big-screen installment adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s phenomenally successful books raked in an astounding 142.8 million dollars in three days, the third biggest opening of all time, Exhibitor Relations said.

Only Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” with 158.4 million dollars and “Spider-Man 3″ with 151.1 million dollars have scored bigger openings.

However, the “New Moon” earnings are considered remarkable because the film was released in November, outside of the traditional summer blockbuster season.

Although the movie was unable to dethrone “The Dark Knight” or “Spider-Man 3″ for highest opening weekend, it did set records for biggest midnight opening and opening day, figures showed.

The “Twilight” franchise follows the fortunes of high school teenager Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, and her vampire lover Edward Cullen, played by British heart-throb Robert Pattinson.

The success of “New Moon” left American football drama “The Blind Side” in second place.

The feel-good film, adapted from Michael Lewis’s 2006 book, is based on the real-life journey from rags to riches of Baltimore Ravens star Michael Oher.

Starring Sandra Bullock as the woman who helps Oher realize his dream, it earned a healthy 34.1 million dollars in its opening weekend.

In third place, end-of-the-world film “2012″ brought in 26.4 million dollars, more than double its next-runner-up, “Planet 51,” with 12.3 million.

“Disney’s A Christmas Carol” earned 12.2 million, trailed by acclaimed abuse saga “Precious” with 10.9 million dollars.

In seventh place was satire “The Men Who Stare At Goats,” starring George Clooney and Jeff Bridges as members of a military unit schooled in psychological warfare. The film took 2.8 million dollars.

Eighth spot was taken by comedy “Couples Retreat,” which earned 1.9 million dollars while extra-terrestrial drama “The Fourth Kind” was ninth with 1.7 million.

Michael Jackson concert movie “This Is It” completed the top 10 with 1.6 million dollars.

Latest news Updated, Kathy Gloddy: Kathy Gloddy,Michael Oher Football Player:The ABC News magazine 20/20 will bring national eyes to the November 1971 unsolved murder of Kathy Lynn Gloddy, the 13-year-old girl who was beaten, raped, hit over the head, and run over by a car at least four times and left on a logging road.
Kathy GloddyKathy Lynn’s family has never given up the hope that those responsible for the brutal murder of their youngest sister would be brought to justice.

“We are excited that 20/20 has chosen to take on Kathy’s case,” remarked Janet Gloddy Young, one of Kathy’s three sisters. “We are hoping through continued media exposure and through the creation of the Kathy Lynn Gloddy Reward Fund we will be able to find some answers and peace for our family.

Kathy GloddyNews crews spent some time in Franklin filming the area off Webster Road where Kathy Lynn’s body was found and taping the candlelight and daisy vigil family and friends held for Kathy Lynn this past summer.

In addition, retired Massachusetts Police Chief and Detective Thomas Shamshak has been helping the family not only with their search for justice but with their efforts to create and fund the first-ever cold-case unit in the state.

After the Gloddy sisters spent months testifying in both the state Senate and the N.H. House of Representatives, Gov. John D. Lynch signed the New Hampshire Cold Case unit into law in the Governor and Council’s room with the family invited as special guests.

The murder investigation has taken a number of twists and turns recently, most notably when elderly Florida resident Ernest Dukette went into a police department and said he believed he was with Kathy Lynn when she died but could not remember if he had raped her.

Although Dukette later recanted his statements, saying he was ill and confused from various medications he was taking, New Hampshire authorities reopened the case and exhumed Kathy Lynn’s body in hopes modern DNA mapping techniques could be used to either confirm or deny his statements.

Dukette died in August at Old Town, Fla., and never spoke another public word about Kathy Lynn and what he may have known about her murder.

Kathy Lynn’s brother, Roger, now living in Colorado, has said Dukette had a reputation for drinking and being rough with women.

While Dukette took his secrets to the grave with him, Senior Assistant State Attorney Will Delker said the case would continue to be open and his investigators had reason to believe that more than one person was involved in KathyLynn’s murder.

The last night of Kathy Lynn’s life, the young athlete, poet, and conservationist took her German Shepherd out for a walk and stopped by a variety store for ice cream and a can of potato sticks — her favorites. She never made it back to her home.

Here is a new trailer for John Lee Hancock’s upcoming sports drama “The Blind Side,” and I admit it’s certainly not as heartwarming as the first one. It just doesn’t flow as smoothly as its excellent predecessor.

The Blind Side Movie Trailer

ssentially, the film follows Michael Oher, who everyone believes is the one of the first players to be picked in the year’s NFL draft. As a teenager, Oher was homeless and found shelter with a wealthy family.

“Side” is based on Michael Lewis’ “The Blind Side: Evolution of the Game,” and the film stars Sandra Bullock (I just don’t buy her accent in this), Quinton Aaron, Kathy Bates and Tim McGraw.

“The Blind Side” opens everywhere Nov. 20, 2009. BTW, can you spot Phil Fulmer in this trailer? As a former UT student, I just have to point that out.
