Karachi Operation not Against Ethnic Groups: Rehman Malik

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan News: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday said that the ongoing operation in Karachi is not against any ethnic group and no further incident of target killing has been reported in last 48 hours.

While talking to the media outside the Accountability Court, Rehman Malik said that police and rangers will launch a joint operation against culprits in Karachi, and effort is not meant to target any ethnic group like Pakhtoon or Baloch. He said that there has been no killing reported in last 48 hours.
The minister further said that the city will be protected at any cost and all related measures will be done to ensure safety.
Rehman Malik appeared before the Accountability Court here today where the hearing was adjourned till 2 February.
Rally Taken Against the Search Operation in Lyari

KARACHI, Pakistan News: A large number of people including women and children took out a rally in protest against search operation and arrests in Lyari.

The protesters, led office bearers of Peoples’ Peace Committee of Lyari after marching through different roads reached at Karachi Press club where they staged a protest demonstration. They also raised slogans against the government.
Police resorted to baton-charge against protesters at II Chundrigar Road.

KARACHI, Pakistan News: Police and rangers have reportedly launched a joint crackdown against suspected miscreants in Lyari locality and have also arrested scores of suspects following reports of intensive firing in the area on Sunday night.

According to sources, following the reports of fresh clashes between some rival groups and in view of recent target killings in the area, police and rangers have jointly commenced search operation and as a result, nabbed a number of people from there.
Search operation in still underway, meanwhile, locally resident women have come out of their homes and chanting slogans against police operation, witnesses said.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan News update: Security forces started operation against militants in tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency.

Fifteen militants have been killed and six arrested during security forces took control of Gorgari and hoisted national flag.
According to FC media cell, security forces launched key operation in tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency named “ Khokh Ba Desham” which means “ severe punishment to rival” in local language.
Indefinite curfew has been imposed in the rural areas of tehsil Bara prior to the operation whereas curfew break has been withdraw in urban areas. Gunship helicopters along with ground troops taking part in the action. Fifteen militants have been killed and six arrested during security forces offensive in Gorgari, Malik Deen Khel and Tirah Valley. Several hideouts and 12 vehicles have been destroyed during the action.
3 Militants Killed In Swaziristan Rah-e-Nijat Operation

WANA, News Update: Three militants were killed and eight others injured in ongoing operation Rah –e- Nijat in South Waziristan.
The clashes occurred between militants and security forces in Asman Manza, Makeen and Ladha areas, said sources. Three militants were killed and eight others wounded during these clashes. Security forces took control of more then 100 hideouts of militants whereas huge arms cache and explosives were also recovered and at least 600 militants have been killed so far during operation started on October 17.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan News Update: Security forces started operation against militants in different parts of Khyber Agency.
According to FC sources, security forces taking positions against militants in Gorgari in tehsil Bara and Chora Valley in tehsil Landi Kotal of Khyber Agency. Forces are using heavy artillery and armed vehicles against militants. FC sources told Geo News that fresh operation is a result of government’s policy to clear these areas from militants. The sources said local tribes welcomed security forces action.
President Zardari, PM Gilani Discuss Operation Rah-e-Nijat

Islamabad, Pakistan News Update: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari in the Presidency and discussed with him matters related to the operation Rah-e-Nijat in South Waziristan.
During the meeting matters relating to the prevailing political situation, IDPs, the measures taken by the government to address sugar problem and ‘Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan’ Package for Balochistan also came under discussion.
Briefing the media, Spokesman to the President, former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the Prime Minister discussed with the President matters related to the operation Rah-e-Nijat.
The President and the Prime Minister also discussed the salient features of Balochistan Empowerment Package which will be unveiled in the joint sitting of the Parliament on Tuesday.
They also discussed the constitutional issues that are being thrashed out by the Constitutional Reforms Committee and will be placed soon in the Parliament.
3 Militants Killed in SouthWaziristan Clashes

WANA: Three militants were killed and seven injured during clashes between security forces and militants as operation Rah-e-Nijat continued in South Waziristan.
Sources said three militants were killed and seven others wounded during clashes between militants and security forces in Maidan area of Ladha. A security man sustained injuries when militants attacked forces with automatic weapons in Asmaan Manza. More then 500 militants have been killed and scores injured so far in the operation. The forces also destroyed several hideouts and took control of key strongholds of militants.
President Asif Ali Zardari Ready to Abolish 58-2B

ISLAMABAD,Pakistan: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said President Asif Ali Zardari is willing to shed the powers vested in him through 58-2B.
He also said the military operation in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) would come to a successful end before the expected time, adding the targets set for SWA operation are being achieved.
The PM Gilani said the foreign aid would be used for poverty-stricken people in the areas affected by the military operation.
Security Forces Consolidate their Position in SWA

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan:- The security forces in South Waziristan Agency where Operation Rah-e-Nijat is being carried out, have been consolidating their positions in the regained areas. According to ISPR, here on Tuesday, security forces are consolidating their positions on all three axis.

On Jandola – Sararogha Axis, security forces secured important feature point 1665, 1 km south of Janata. Sanitization of Khazhikai, Shuza Sar was conducted and 6 IEDs were defused along with recovery of few weapons.
Sara Rogha has been completely cleared and fully under control of security forces.
On Shakai – Kaniguram Axis, security forces carried out consolidation of positions at Ghundai Gur, Tikrai Sar, Sultano, Pungai, Ladha Fort and Bangel Khel.
Security forces carried out search operation at Gani Khel, Khaikaeh Narai and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.
Search operation was conducted at Torwam and 15 compounds were cleared and 1 tunnel system was found and destroyed.
Terrorists fired 3 rockets at Asman Manza and Kaniguram which was responded effectively.
On Razmak- Makeen Axis, security forces are strengthening their positions on Razmak-Makeen Axis.
Security forces cleared Blanki Sar and destroyed 6 terrorists bunkers.
As far as Operation Rah-e-Rast in Swat and Malakand is concerned, security forces discovered a tunnel complex (3 tunnels, 50 feet each) at Bar Sardan while a suspect voluntarily surrendered to security forces at Tiligram.
Security forces apprehended 2 terrorists at Charbagh and Nawan Killi.
So far, 11,794 Cash Cards have issued to displaced families of Waziristan.
