Who Won The World Series in 2009

Latest News Updated, Who Won The World Series in 2009: Who Won The World Series In 2009,Serie Mundial De Beisbol 2009 taters helped put the Philadelphia Phillies in excellent position to win the series and putting the Yankees in a hole they’d rather not be in.
Who Won The World Series in 2009
Consider the following numbers:

* Since the 1994 strike, the winner of Game 1 of the World Series has gone on to win the series 12 out of 14 times.
* Of that group, teams that won Game 1 on the road went on to win the series four out of six times.
* The Yankees have been involved in six of those 14 World Series, winning four of them and losing the other two. They lost Game 1 of the 2003 World Series at home to the Marlins and likewise lost Game 1 at home to the Diamondbacks in 2001. In 1999, the Yankees’ only year to begin theWorld Series on the road, they beat the Braves 4-1 on the way to a series sweep.
* In this year’s postseason, the winners of Game 1 in every series went on to win that series. The Dodgers were the only team to win Game 1 on the road, and they went on to sweep the Cardinals.

who won the world series in 2009Of course, a team is only as good as the next day’s pitcher, and though Pedro Martinez has been impressive, A.J. Burnett seems like a better option than a man days removed from his 38th birthday. And, of course, history can’t determine the outcome of a baseball game, and if the Yanks drop Game 2 on Thursday, they need only look back to 1996. That year, the Yankees lost both Game 1 and Game 2 at home, but took four straight from the defending champion Bravesto win the first of their four World Series.

Still, after one game, history strongly favors the Phillies, and Game 2 has become that much more crucial for the Yankees.

Phillies Dodgers Game 4: Los Angeles Dodgers lost the Phillies Dodgers Game 4 on Monday. Phillies were in a strong position after winning the ALCS Game 3 and won the NLCS Game 4. Phillies had dominated the entire match and recorded a 11-0 victory in the Game 3 of ALCS. Dodgers tried to revive their condition but finally could not succeed. In NLCS Game 4, Phillies scored 5 and restricted the Dodgers to a score of 4 to continue their winning streak.
Phillies Dodgers Game 4
Victory in the fourth game against the Los Angeles Dodgers gave the Philadelphia Phillies a lead of 3-1 in this National League Championship Series. In the ALCS Game 3, it was prominent that the Phillies did not give the Dodgers much chance to show their skills. However, the NLCS Game 4 was not the same, Los Angeles Dodgers had attempted for a comeback in the series. Many times in the Game 4, they had taken the upper-hand making Phillies trail behind them.

Phillies who has a strong line up this year had played tactfully in the match and took a lead in the end. Ryan Howard had played well in the match against the Dodgers. His homer of two runs had helped the team score a victory against the Dodgers. Joe Blanton’s performance was also quite impressive in the match and he had equally contributed for the win.

Philadelphia Phillies versus Los Angeles Dodgers, Game 5 is scheduled this Wednesday. The players would get an off-day on Tuesday and it is expected that they would be completely recharged for the Game 5. Los Angeles Dodgers will have to play in an outstanding manner if they want to revive their lost glory.

Chan Ho Park has been activated for the NLCS baseball playoffs and he may see action against his former team the LA Dodgers.  He’s a middle inning relief pitcher for the defending world champions Philadelphia Phillies.   He was injured during the month of September and after a rehabbing for the past few weeks, he’s being thrust into the heat of the baseball playoffs.

Park said yesterday he felt healthy enough to return to the active roster.

“I’m ready,” said Park, who went 2-2 with a 2.52 ERA in 38 relief appearances during the regular season. “I’d be glad if I had more time to face hitters.”

Park spent the NLDS working out in Clearwater, Fla., where he threw two bullpen sessions.

“From everything that they say and the way that he was throwing the ball in Florida, he’s ready to go,” manager Charlie Manuel said. “He’s ready to pitch. They felt like he is 100 percent.”

NLCS Schedule 2009

October 13, 2009 by lee

he 2009 NLCS is just about set, but we already know who is hosting. The 2009 NLCS will be hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who clinched the best record in the National League, and are now awaiting the winner of the Philadelphia-Colorado series that is still ongoing.
NLCS Schedule 2009The Los Angeles Dodgers made very quick work of the St. Louis Cardinals, and even though it seemed like the Cardinals pitching could help propel their team further into the playoffs, the Dodgers just proved to be too talented this season.

The Dodgers were also able to just shut down the Cardinals offense, and held them to only six total runs in the three game series. It sent the best player in baseball home early (Albert Pujols), and gives the Dodger fans an opportunity to attend another NLCS.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will begin hosting the 2009 NLCS schedule on Thursday, October 15th when the series opens in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers have put themselves in a prime position to continue their 2009 success, and if they can keep playing as well as they did in the 2009 NLDS, they have a very good chance at making it back to the World Series for the first time in a long time. Standing in their way will either be the Colorado Rockies or the Philadelphia Phillies, depending on which of those teams can win the other series in the National League.

Either way, the NLCS schedule has now been set, and the winner of that series will serve as the visiting team in the 2009 National League Championship Series. It’s a great series so far, but Philadelphia has some great starting pitching to throw at the Rockies in game four and possibly game five.

As we mentioned, game one of the 2009 NLCS will take place on Thursday, October 15th in Los Angeles. Game two will follow on the very next day (Friday, October 16th), before the teams head over to the visitor’s park. Beginning on Sunday, October 18th, the 2009 NLCS will move to either Colorado or Philadelphia, where three games will be played on their soil if needed.
NLCS Schedule 2009
Those games are scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 18th, Monday, October 19th, and Wednesday October 21st if needed. If they make it to games six and seven in the NLCS, those games will be played on Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th in Los Angeles.

This schedule could see some changes if in fact the Colorado Rockies are able to make it to the 2009 NLCS. That reason would be that the weather is extremely unpredictable in Colorado, and the city of Denver saw such terrible weather that one of the NLDS games even had to be postponed till the following day.

We will cross that bridge when we come to it though, because first they have to beat the very talented Philadelphia Phillies, who are also the defending World Series champions. All of the 2009 NLCS games will take place on TBS, so tune in if you want to see some great National League baseball.

Vicente Padilla, Padilla

October 11, 2009 by lee

St. Louis -  His name doesn’t have the resonance of Orel Hershiser or Fernando Valenzuela among Dodgers fans, but Vicente Padilla could have a certain ring to it following the command playoff performance he delivered tonight.
Vicente Padilla, PadillaPadilla held the Cardinals scoreless over seven sublime innings and Andre Ethier hit a two-run home run to propel the Dodgers to a 5-1 victory in Game 3 of the National League division series at Busch Stadium that completed a three-game sweep.

The Dodgers casually jogged out of their dugout and celebrated briefly with hugs and hand slaps in the infield after closer Jonathan Broxton struck out pinch-hitter Rick Ankiel to end the game.

It was the second consecutive year the Dodgers swept a division series after making quick work of the Chicago Cubs in 2008.

The Dodgers will play the winner of the series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies. That series is tied at one game apiece, with Game 3 scheduled for Sunday.

Saturday marked the latest in a surreal series of developments for Padilla, who went 4-0 in seven starts with the Dodgers during the regular season after being released by Texas in August.

His playoff victory held special significance because his mother had traveled from Nicaragua to attend the game. Padilla worked four one-two-three innings and retired nine consecutive batters from the fourth through seventh innings. He gave up four hits and one walk while striking out four.

A crowd of 47,296, the largest in the history of the newest Busch Stadium, came to cheer on the Cardinals, but you never would have known it after Ethier’s homer off Joel Pineiro in the third inning gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. Ethier also tripled and scored on Manny Ramirez’s single in the seventh.

“This is the playoffs!” a fan in the upper deck yelled earlier in the inning. “Let’s go fans!”

Off they went, streaming for the exits after Brendan Ryan flied out to center field to end the seventh. George Sherrill got two outs in the eighth before Dodgers Manager Joe Torre brought in Broxton to face Albert Pujols with a runner on first base.

Julio Lugo stole second and scored when Pujols lined a single to right field, but Matt Holliday popped out to Ethier in right field to end the inning. Broxton pitched a scoreless ninth.

Ramirez had three hits, including a first-inning double that drove in Matt Kemp for the Dodgers’ first run.

There were more memorable mistakes for the Cardinals one game after Holliday flubbed a sinking liner in left field. Pineiro dropped an easy flip from first baseman Pujols and catcher Yadier Molina was thrown out when he inexplicably tried to advance from second base to third on Mark DeRosa’s grounder to shortstop Rafael Furcal.

Padilla faced a major jam in the first when the Cardinals loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a two-out walk by Colby Rasmus. But Molina grounded out to Furcal to end the inning.

Padilla also might have saved a run when he snared Mark DeRosa’s liner with a runner on third base and two out in the fourth.
