LOS ANGELES, News update: The ‘Twilight’ vampire romance sequel ‘New Moon’ took a record-breaking bite out of the North American box office this weekend, final figures showed on Monday.

The second big-screen installment adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s phenomenally successful books raked in an astounding 142.8 million dollars in three days, the third biggest opening of all time, Exhibitor Relations said.
Only Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” with 158.4 million dollars and “Spider-Man 3″ with 151.1 million dollars have scored bigger openings.
However, the “New Moon” earnings are considered remarkable because the film was released in November, outside of the traditional summer blockbuster season.
Although the movie was unable to dethrone “The Dark Knight” or “Spider-Man 3″ for highest opening weekend, it did set records for biggest midnight opening and opening day, figures showed.
The “Twilight” franchise follows the fortunes of high school teenager Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, and her vampire lover Edward Cullen, played by British heart-throb Robert Pattinson.
The success of “New Moon” left American football drama “The Blind Side” in second place.
The feel-good film, adapted from Michael Lewis’s 2006 book, is based on the real-life journey from rags to riches of Baltimore Ravens star Michael Oher.
Starring Sandra Bullock as the woman who helps Oher realize his dream, it earned a healthy 34.1 million dollars in its opening weekend.
In third place, end-of-the-world film “2012″ brought in 26.4 million dollars, more than double its next-runner-up, “Planet 51,” with 12.3 million.
“Disney’s A Christmas Carol” earned 12.2 million, trailed by acclaimed abuse saga “Precious” with 10.9 million dollars.
In seventh place was satire “The Men Who Stare At Goats,” starring George Clooney and Jeff Bridges as members of a military unit schooled in psychological warfare. The film took 2.8 million dollars.
Eighth spot was taken by comedy “Couples Retreat,” which earned 1.9 million dollars while extra-terrestrial drama “The Fourth Kind” was ninth with 1.7 million.
Michael Jackson concert movie “This Is It” completed the top 10 with 1.6 million dollars.

Director Tarun Mansukhani apparently wants somebody to play a real gay in his Dostana sequel, unlike John and Abhishek who pretend to be gay.
A source says, “Riteish wasn’t keen on playing a gay character. It’s a risk for any mainstream Bollywood actor to take on such a role. He politely refused, but he was disappointed that his one of his best friends, who had many films on the floors, had offered him an insignificant role.”
However, Tarun till date has finalized only John-Abhi for the sequel, nobody else has been cast for other roles.

Almost a year ago, it was announced that there would be a movie sequel for the hit TV series Sex and the City. It took years for producers and actresses to agree to a first movie, but a few months to decide a sequel was needed. Then again, with the popularity of the Sex and the City movie, it was inevitable that a sequel would follow.
Production is underway for the movie, set to be released at the end of May 2010, which means spoilers are leaking on the web! As expected, all four main ladies are back. But what is in store for them? Who, besides the ladies, will star in the movie?
Spoilers coming up!
* IMDb.com has very cool pictures from the set. Some show the ladies in 80s attire. Is this a flashback or maybe the ladies attend an 80s-themed party?
* Miley Cyrus will appear in the movie and will wear the same dress as Sarah Jessica in a scene. Some speculation claim that Cyrus will play a younger Carrie Bradshaw, while others claim that Cyrus will play herself during a red-carpet event scene in the movie. She and Carrie will end up wearing the same dress at the event.
* The Daily Beast’s Rebecca Dana was cast to play a lesbian, but after 14 hours on the set, she decided to quit the movie. In a report posted on the Beast’s website, Dana gives us a few spoilers: Samantha will be on an anti-menopause diet; Charlotte will have a new nanny who doesn’t wear a bra; there will be a gay wedding.

* As for the gay wedding, Entertainment Weekly thinks that Anthony and Stanford will be the ones tying the knot in the movie. Rumors say that Liza Minelli will be part of the wedding.
* Speaking of weddings, pictures of Samantha in a wedding dress have leaked on the web. Did she find Mr. Right? Or is she just playing dress up? If she does get married, it could be to Smith, as actor Jason Lewis will be part of the sequel, or to a European architect named Rikard, to be played by Max Ryan. The latter is said to be a love interest for Samantha.
* Some scenes are set to take place in Morocco.
* Steve and Harry are part of the sequel.
* As you can see from the Access Hollywood clip below, Carrie and Big seem to still be together. According to US Magazine, Big will lose a lot of money and take a job in London, living alone in a one-bedroom apartment. Big will hit rock bottom and sleep with another woman. After she leaves Big, Carrie discovers that she is pregnant.
* US Magazine also reveals that Miranda will make a surprising career decision.
Do you look forward to the movie? What would you like to see happen to our favorite NYC ladies in the sequel?
