Wiaa Football Playoffs

Latest News Updated, Wiaa Football Playoffs: Appleton North (9-0, Division 1), Brillion (9-0, Division 5) and Shiocton (9-0, Division 6) are tops seeds for Tuesday’s Level 1 WIAA football playoffs. North won the Fox Valley Association championship, Brillion captured the Olympian-Packerland Small and Shiocton took the Central Wisconsin-Eight title.

Defending WIAA Division 2 state champion Kimberly is a No. 2 seed. Shawano Community is the top seed in its Division 2 bracket.

In Division 3, Eastern Valley co-champion Waupaca is a No. 3 seed. Ashland is the top seed in the Comets’ Division 3 bracket, while Black River Falls is the No. 2 seed.

In Division, 4, Eastern Valley co-champion Xavier is a No. 3 seed. Kewaunee is the top seed in its bracket, while Nekoosa is the No 2 seed.

Of the 428 schools that sponsored varsity football this season, 224 teams advanced to the playoffs in seven divisions.

Besides Waupaca and Kimberly, 2008 state champions that return to the playoffs are Homestead (Division 1), Colby (Division 5) and Catholic Central (Division 7).

Homestead (9-0), a top seed in its Division 1 bracket, won’t be allowed to host a home playoff game because the school missed a deadline in filing football paperwork to the WIAA.

Level 1 football playoffs open at 7 p.m. next Tuesday.
