2 Pakistan and New Zealand Test to be Played on 3 December
The second Test of the three-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan will be played from December 3 in Wellington.

The biggest problem for Pakistan is the continuous rain in Wellington due to which the team could not get a proper chance of practicing.

Thus, the Pakistan team participated in indoor practice session.

Talking with Reporter News from Wellington, team manager Abdul Raqeeb said that the team would practice tomorrow at that ground of Wellington where Test match would be played and in case of rain the team may be deprived of practice as there is no practice facility at this venue.

He told that Misbah-ul-Haq could not take part in the indoor training session as he arrived late. He will practice with the team on Tuesday.

Misbah’s playing the second Test could not so far be decided.

New Zeeland Face In Pakistani BowlersDUNEDIN News Update: Pakistan skipper Mohammad Yousuf won the toss and elected to bowl in the opening Test of the three-match series against New Zealand here Tuesday.

The University Oval wicket has a reputation for favouring the quick bowlers and Yousuf had no hesitation in confirming he would bowl first.

“Obviously, the first two hours here are very difficult and that’s why we will bowl first,” he said.

But it was a decision that did not bother New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, who did not believe the green-tinged wicket would pose serious problems.

“I think we wanted to bat on it. All the talk is it won’t do as much as it’s expected to and when the conditions above are good it normally plays pretty well.”

Although officially a Pakistan home series, the three Tests were relocated after New Zealand refused to go to Pakistan over security fears.

It is the first time New Zealand have hosted a Test in November and rain is forecast for later in the week.

Missile Agni-II in India is Not Clear Night Trial

Missile Agni-II in India is Not Clear Night TrialBALASORE News Update: India’s nuclear-capable intermediate range Agni-II missile, test-fired for the first time after sunset on Monday, reportedly failed to get the desired results.

The Army test-fired the surface-to-surface Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) from Wheeler’s Island, Bhadrak district, around 7.50pm.

‘‘The liftoff and the first stage separation was smooth. But it faltered just before the second stage separation and behaved erratically, deviating from its coordinated path. Further analysis is on to ascertain the cause,’’ said a source.

The entire trajectory of Monday’s trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and a naval ship.

The launch, originally scheduled in the first week of this month, was deferred due to some technical snags in its pneumatic system. Though the snags were rectified, another glitch surfaced during Monday’s test, leading to the fiasco, the source claimed.

The nuclear capable 2,000-km-plus range missile has a length of 20 meters, a diameter of one meter, weighs 17 tonnes and can carry a payload of around 1,000 kg. It was first tested on April 11, 1999.

The test launch was significant from India’s strategic point of view because for the first time since the beginning of DRDO’s missile development programme, a missile was put under trial during night. The user trial was conducted by Army officials while scientists from DRDO were present to provide necessary logistical support.

New Zealand Dunedin Announces Squad for TestNew Zealand Dunedin Announces Squad for Test: New Zealand have picked a 13-man squad to face Pakistan in the first Test at Dunedin which begins on the 24th of this month. The New Zealand team is bolstered with the re-entry of Shane Bond who gets to play Test Cricket after a gap of two years!

The hosts are unlucky to miss one of their key players in Jesse Ryder who is still recovering from an abductor strain which he picked up during his stint in the IPL. Ryder’s place has gone to Peter Fulton who has a mediocre average of under 25.00 and just a fifty in the 8 Tests so far in his career. It could be a toss up between Fulton and Tim McIntosh in the end. McIntosh is fresh from a century against Pakistanis at Queensland which could give him the nod ahead of Fulton.

Apart from Bond, medium pacer Daryl Tuffey makes a comeback in the Test team after similar adventures in the rebel Indian Cricket League. Most likely Tuffey could sit out with New Zealand already having Chris Martin and Iain O’Brien in the ranks to partner with Bond.

New Zealand Squad for first Test at Dunedin : Daniel Vettori (Captain), Tim McIntosh, Daniel Flynn, Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton, Martin Guptill, Grant Elliott, Brendon McCullum (wk), Iain O’Brien, Shane Bond, Jeetan Patel, Daryl Tuffey, Chris Martin

Latest News Updated, David Shepherd Umpire Dead: Former umpire David Shepherd has died after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 68. Shepherd, who was born in Devon, officiated in 92 Tests and 172 one-day internationals, including three World Cup finals before retiring in 2005.
David Shepherd Umpire Dead
He was famous for his aversion to the ‘Nelson’ – scores with a multiple of 111 – which made him hop at the crease between deliveries.

He played for Gloucestershire, from 1965-79, hitting 10,672 runs.

He was appointed as a first-class umpire in 1981 and was swiftly elevated through the ranks, making his Test debut in an Ashes Test four years later.

After his final international match, a one-day game between England and Australia at the Oval, he received a standing ovation from the fans and players .
Dickie Bird, who umpired many matches alongside Shepherd, said his former colleague would be missed.

“I feel very saddened this has happened,” he told Sky Sports.

“He was a fine umpire, we spent many happy hours together. He was a great man and a tremendous man to umpire with. He was a good bloke, he’ll be sadly missed and he was a great friend.”

Gloucestershire chairman John Light paid tribute to Shepherd.

“As an umpire he has always been a familiar and much-loved face, not only here but at cricket grounds around the world,” he said.

“He was friendly, outgoing and straightforward. He believed cricket was a simple game and he took a straightforward approach to it in his cricket and his umpiring.
“He always put a smile on your face.”

Shahid Afridi, To Join South Australia For Twenty20

KARACHI: South Australia have signed Shahid Afridi for the Twenty20 Big Bash this summer as a replacement for the spinner Ajantha Mendis.
Shahid Afridi, To Join South Australia For Twenty20
The Redbacks had announced the recruitment of Mendis in July but he is now unavailable due to Sri Lanka’s planned tri-series with India and Bangladesh in January.

South Australia’s Big Bash campaign begins on December 29, when Pakistan will be involved in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

However, Afridi has not played Test cricket since 2006 and is not expected to feature in their Test squad, which would leave him free to take part in the full Twenty20 competition.

“We narrowly missed out on finals last season and these signings are definitely a boost to our quest to qualify for the Champions League this year,” South Australia’s high performance manager Jamie Cox said.

“I have made no secret of the fact that I view the Big Bash competition as the most commercial on the domestic calendar and the inaugural Champions’ League also provides fantastic opportunities for young players to showcase their skills on the world stage.”

Afridi should be a valuable Twenty20 asset for South Australia; he was the player of the tournament at the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and averages 21.05 with the bat and 15.73 with the ball from his 24 Twenty20 internationals. Other international signings for the Big Bash include Chris Gayle (Western Australia) and Dwayne Bravo (Victoria).

Lasith Malinga was to join Tasmania and Victoria had attracted Muttiah Muralitharan but both men are likely to be unavailable for the same reason as Mendis. The West Indies allrounder Kieron Pollard is on New South Wales’ radar and the states have until Christmas Eve to confirm up to two international recruits.
