ISTANBUL: Turkish officials say the Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir did not attend a summit of Islamic leaders in Istanbul on Monday.

Turkey said last week that Bashir would present to the Organization of Islamic Conference summit, despite the international arrest warrant on charges of war crimes.
However, Turkish government officials now say they have learned President Bashir will not come.
The European Union has raised objections to the Sudanese President attend the summit.
The International Criminal Court has accused President Bashir on charges of plotting a campaign of rape, murder and other crimes in the Sudanese region of Darfur.
Bashir has repeatedly defied the International Criminal Court to travel abroad but only to countries not party to the ICC and can guarantee their safety.
